James 3 - verse for today

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. (James 3:1)

Teachers need to talk a lot.... Counsellors as well... We really need to watch our mouths.

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. (James 3:16)

We need spiritual wisdom to know the right words to speak. And this wisdom will be demonstrated in one's works - gentle, full of mercy and good fruits...

James 3:1 also struck a deep chord in me when I read it.

It makes me want to run away from my duties and reject the work that I am doing... cause I do know that in many ways I am failing... and the thought of stricter judgement scares me very much.

But I guess that is the wrong attitude to have.

Since God has placed me to be in this position now, I should instead "Be diligent to present myself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Tim 2:15).

I should improve myself and not run away. I should be that worker that God is proud of ... and not a teacher who cannot teach in words and deeds.

Thanks for listening :)
