"Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38)
What a familiar accusation.
I have been guilty of making that sort of accusation about Jesus before, and I am sure many of you did as well.
Do You not care that my heart is breaking?
Do You not care that my loved ones are dying?
Do You not care that people are against me and I can bear it no more?
Do You not see? Do You not hear? Do You not care?
However, we see that once Jesus spoke, all was calm and peaceful again. The wind and the waves humbly retreat at the words of Jesus.
Therefore, although at times, God seems to be far away from us and we wonder if He is even listening, we must remember He never slumbers.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
(Psalm 121:3-4)
And although He may seem to tarry, we must have faith that the Almighty can save, and He cares.
Does Jesus care when my way is dark
With a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades
Into deep night shades,
Does He care enough to be near?
Does Jesus care when I've said "goodbye"
To the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches
Till it nearly breaks,
Is it aught to Him? Does He care?
Oh yes, He cares,
I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary,
The long night dreary,
I know my Saviour cares.
(Hymn 336)
